“There are things Valencia is just not going to be comfortable discussing with me, and I know that the ladies at Girls Inc. have a way of connecting to the girls and getting them to open up about issues that are bothering them.”

At age 7, her parents divorced. Valencia and her three older brothers began a new life with their single father. Faced with the challenge of raising his youngest child in a home with all males, Allen Sanders sought the assistance of Girls Inc. as a place for Valencia to be around other girls and form a sisterhood of peers.

In her brief life, Valencia has had to deal with obstacles we will probably never experience during our lifetime, but with the safety net that has been placed around by Girls Inc. staff, she will not have to deal with them alone. In the 4 short years since becoming a member, Valencia’s grades have improved greatly and on her most recent report card she received one “A” and five “B”s. She is also a member of the cheerleading team and the concert band at Davis Hills Middle School.

“Girls Incorporated ® has been a blessing to me and my family. I sometimes have my hands full dealing with three teenage boys and it’s nice to know that Girls Inc. is ready and able to stand in the gap for Valencia when we need them.” ~Reverend Allen Sanders
