The WCR is hosting monthly workshops focusing on a wide array of topics, including self esteem, social media, volunteering and effective communication. The first workshop was held on May 8, and the topic was fashion. The girls had so much fun focusing on what to wear versus what not to wear. June's workshop will be all about volunteering.

24th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day™
Huntsville, Alabama (January 27, 2010) – Girls Incorporated will hold a girls’ sports clinic to honor and encourage female athletes of all ages at the annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day event on February 3. Kindergarten through eighth-grade girls involved in the after-school program at Girls Incorporated as well as girls participating in the Richard Showers Community Center are invited to attend this clinic.
More than 80 girls are expected to attend the sports clinic, which will be held at the Richard Showers Community Center gym from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Local coaches, trainers and athletes have volunteered to introduce the girls to the basic skills of three female sports. The three sports include women’s football, led by Tennessee Valley Tigers teammates, track, led by representatives from Fleet Feet Sports and basketball, led by community volunteers.
The Girls Inc. sports clinic is one of more than 1,000 events taking place across the country for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Congress has proclaimed this national day each year since 1987. The day is devoted to recognizing the progress of girls and women in sports and the benefits that sports and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women. The day is nationally recognized by the American Association of University Women, Girls Scouts of the USA, Girls Incorporated, National Association for Girls and Women in Sports, National Women’s Law Center, Women’s Sports Foundation, and the YWCA of the U.S.A.
